In existence as an
eREAD program since 2004, Summer
STEPS (Students Toward
Educational
& Personal Success) was the first
summer program of its type in
Albuquerque. At eREAD, we see
the summer as an opportunity not
only to provide students with
recreational activities and time
with friends, but also to support
student learning by giving students
the jump start they need towards
success during the next school year.
In a structured, nurturing, safe
environment, students work on basic
skills in reading, writing, math,
and computer literacy; take
cultural, educational and
recreational fieldtrips, and eat
breakfast, lunch and afternoon
snack. Middle-school and high-school
aged students are also involved in
computer refurbishing and e-Waste
Management through a program
sponsored by Bernalillo County.
Students are responsible for
building computers and maintaining
them for all eREAD programs. Cost of
Summer STEPS is $15.00 for
Registration, $10.00 for a Summer
STEPS t-shirt, and a $50.00 weekly
fee. The Summer STEPS Program
for 2008 runs from June 2 through
August 8.
